What Goes Into Website Design and Development Pricing

The development of a website inculcates many aspects that affect the prices on the market. Arriving at a price is one of the challenging decisions web design companies go through on a weekly basis. This is because of the competition in the industry. Not being able to come up with competitive prices for the services involved can mean losing a potential client or an existing customer. Prices may include development, graphic design, domain name registration and a web hosting packages, which sometimes include email hosting as well.

Some companies may not provide all the services mentioned. For example, a company may only provide development and will outsource graphic design to a third-party. Others may only provide development, graphic design, but not domain registration and web hosting. Further, others may provide all the services. Usually, the web design or development is one-off, but the domain name registration and web hosting will be a recurring expense.

This means you will either be paying for the service on a monthly basis or on a yearly basis. The choice is absolutely yours. However, some companies may offer a minimum sign up period of three or six months. In some cases, the company may provide maintenance and administration services such as web page or functional updates for a fee payable every month or year. This is very good if you do not have any knowledge and skill in web administration. It is very expensive to keep a staff in-house to do such a job, so an arrangement like that comes in handy for businesses, especially the small ones.

The question is how do these mix of services impact on web design prices? My experience is that companies which provide all the services usually give you a better deal. For example, the company I am with provides everything I need for my website. When I compare their web design prices with competitors, I realize that I am able to save money. Web design companies that outsource their graphic design to a graphic design company or do not have domain or hosting services tend to be more expensive. As I said from the beginning that has been my personal experience. It does not mean that others may not provide more competitive prices.

The reason why companies who provide all the services give better deals is that they are able to provide economies of scale. It is just like buying a product in bulk from a wholesaler and getting a discount. So when you decide on getting a website, I suggest you give these thoughts some consideration.

When Graphic Design Takes Over Web Design

A website that is pleasing to the eyes and gives superior user experience is a dream of every business owner, who wants a strong online presence. Irrespective of the nature of the business, a professional website must have all the elements integrated together- web design & development, graphic design, copywriting and search engine optimisation. However, what happens when a designer gives preference to the aesthetics more than the technical aspect of a web design? The answer is simple- you get a beautiful website that attracts the traffic, but fails to convert them due to lack of usability.

While we cannot say that a website can survive without a good graphic design if its web design is superior, the fact remains that too much of anything can be bad for your site. Graphic design is an older concept than web design, and it is mostly used for prints. However, since the dominance of Internet and its use for business marketing and advertising, graphic design eventually made inroads into the domain of website design as well.

The significance of graphic design in a website is for all to see, but it should never take precedence over the actual website design because a good looking website would be of no use if it cannot convert the visitors. While graphic can be used anywhere in the website, one should try to restrict its use at some pre-defined areas only. Discussed below are the places where graphic design can complement a web design-

Footers and headers- Whether it is the home page or any other web page of the site, unique graphics on the footers and headers can add a new edge to the site, making it more defined and supporting the web design. Depending on the nature or the theme of the website, you can use imagery and other features to make it more interactive and user-friendly.

Page titles/headings- Although you can simply have a simple text title on top of every web page, the visual experience of the users can be enhanced with the help of a graphically designed title that has some clip art or illustration as well.

Background images- When using background images it is important to ensure that they do not take away the focus from the content on the web page. The background colours should highlight the textual content and make it more readable.

Flash- This is the most controversial element used in web design and graphic design. While many people believe that it is unnecessary to have too much Flash on a website as it increasing the loading time, there are many successful websites that are based on Flash (example-YouTube). It depends on the kind of website and its purpose when using Flash. Thus, one should use it only when and where it is necessary.

Keeping these points in your mind, would help you in getting the graphic design that complements the web design, instead of dominating it.

Graphic Tee Shirts: What You Need to Know

Graphic t shirts come with that intricate and unique graphic design popular among teenagers and young adults these days. This kind of t shirt usually has screens printed at the front part but there are also other t shirts that have designs located at the side, at the back or maybe at the sleeves. Graphic t shirts have been staying in the fashion industry for years but they were extremely famous during the late 1990s and early 2000 as more and more designers and clothing lines took advantage of the graphic design techniques with the use of technology and computers.

The term ‘graphic t shirt’ was also used to describe shirts with images, instead of describing its fit or style. Some of the popular terms associate with it include ‘vintage’ which describe both its fit and style, ‘pocket’ which pertains to style only and ‘athletic’ which describes its fit only. The word ‘novelty’ pertains to a t shirt with obnoxious, humorous or witty phrases imprinted on it. But novelty tee shirts can also be considered as graphic t shirts especially the ones with images on it.

The images found on these t shirts vary from the random licensed cartoon or movie characters to music bands and even company logos. Graphic tee shirts are widely available for both genders and even across the age groups. Graphic tees that feature licensed characters are the ones created by Nickelodeon, Caron Network and Disney. They are also popular choices among children. On the other hand, older kids prefer brand logos and other artworks developed by emerging music slates.

With modern technological advancements such as computer imaging, iron on transfer paper and printers, it has become convenient for many people to make their own graphic designs for tee shirts. Businesses offering to develop graphic tees from personal designs are also common these days and enables kids and novice designers to have easy access to customized shirts.

Today’s hottest graphic t shirt designs are bring back the ‘retro’. These shirts feature superheroes, like the recognizable Superman ‘S’ print, the Twister game, the Frankberry cereal and even classic television shows (e.g. Brady Bunch). Tattoo art on t shirts are also becoming popular and so are skulls and shirts that have been washed just to have that faded and vintage look.
